Mare Street, London
Appointed towards the end of 2024, Shaw Engineers were engaged to support the structural design for the redevelopment of an existing three-storey building on Mare Street, London. The project involved converting the former commercial premises into residential use, with comprehensive internal refurbishment works that accommodated the new layouts. This was further complemented by the construction of a new fourth storey formed using a lightweight steel frame.
The rooftop extension adopted a dormer-style configuration, incorporating a series of cranked steel members to create the pitched roof profile while maximising internal headroom. The internal works formed a key part of the commercial-to-residential transformation, ensuring the building was appropriately adapted for its new purpose while complementing the addition of the upper-storey extension.
Shaw Engineers worked closely with GW Consulting Engineers throughout the design process to coordinate structural details and ensure a smooth transition from concept to construction. The project is currently undergoing construction, with the new additional storey now beginning to take shape above the existing structure.
