Shaw Engineers supported Steelcrest Buildings Ltd with the structural design of a new cultural hub in Wrenbury, featuring a steel portal frame with SIPs infill.

A key feature of the design was the curved roof, achieved using a series of cranked steel members for the primary rafters. This solution created a striking, open interior while avoiding the cost of bespoke curved steel. The frame was carefully detailed to simplify connections, efficiently transfer loads, and accommodate the SIPs panels.

Working closely with Steelcrest Buildings Ltd and the SIPs supplier, we coordinated the interface between the frame and panels to ensure a smooth transition from design to construction. Construction is expected to finish late 2027.
